What’s so special about one of the most popular live performances of all time?

Genre: Grunge

Nirvana is a band that needs no introduction. Not only do they have one of the most iconic albums and songs, they have one of if not the most popular and well received live performance. MTV unplugged is a show by MTV where artists perform with acoustic instruments. Nirvana did an episode in New York in 1993. They would later release it in other forms as a live album in 1994 after Cobain’s passing. What makes this performance so special? To put it shortly it’s how they show off the chemistry, make cover songs sound original, and this is sadly one of their last group efforts before Kurt’s passing. You can sense that they liked working together and playing as a band. And they did make sure their sounds appeared almost like the studio versions. The cover songs feel like they are Nirvana songs but also pay tribute to the originals like “The Man Who Sold The World'' originally by David Bowie. Some of the covers became more popular than the originals themselves like “Lake Of Fire” originally by the Meat Puppets and “Where Did You Sleep Last Night'' originally by Lead Belly. Their original material highlights are “About A Girl” which I prefer over the studio version and “All Apologies” and “Come as you are” sound great with live instrumentation.

Highly recommend if you want to listen to an exemplary live performance from one of the best bands of all time

Favorite songs: “About a girl”, “The man who sold the world”, “Lake of fire”, “All apologies”, “Where Did You Sleep Last Night”
