ROM COMs - HATE THEM OR LOVE THEM

Valentine's day is fast approaching and whether you’re in a happy relationship or unhappily single, there's no better way to kick it off than with a nice Rom Com! Even though the genre is heavily criticized amongst avid film fans, a good romantic comedy is rarely a waste of time.

Here’s my take on the best three romantic comedies of all times, loved by many around the world.

  1. How to lose a guy in 10 days

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey star side by side, as journalist Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) sets her eyes on writing an article on how to lose a guy in 10 days. Whilst Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey) takes a bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in the same amount of time. The film follows their interactions as they try to fulfill their respective goals. The film is lighthearted and entertaining, and it explores themes of love, relationships, and communication.

2. Pretty woman

Often considered the staple of the genre, Pretty woman explores themes of love, different backgrounds and self discovery. With its A-list cast (Julia Roberts and Richard Gere), combined with a timeless story and impeccable music choice, there is no doubt that it will provide a good time for its viewers.

3. Notting Hill

Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, the cast pretty much speaks for itself! The film is set in a charming and cozy little part of London as William Thacker (Hugh Grant), a shy bookstore owner, falls in love with Hollywood star Anna Scott (Julia Roberts). The movie goes to show that love conquers all, as they must deal with issues such as snooping paparazzi, fame and even their own insecurities. The highlight of the movie is the love declaration at the very end. Whilst the movie is mostly focused on the romantic aspect of Rom Coms, there are a few well placed jokes and charming phrases that can be enjoyed by all.
