Hypnotizing trap music

Genre: Trap

Before Carti made “Die Lit” and “Whole Lotta Red”, he released a unique self-titled debut mixtape. What makes this project its own thing is the repetition and excessive use of ad libs. The ad libs are just repetition of the lines in their entirety or the lyrics themselves. Compared to other trap music, Carti uses repetition as his main attraction whereas artists like T.I and Jeezy would make their life stories the main attraction. The best songs are the ones where he lets the beat do its job and his vocals and adlibs perfectly blend in like in “Location” and “No. 9” feel like trips to elsewhere and his lyrics just blend. Another highlight is Half & Half where “this is not pop, this some rock” is said over 30 times but doesn’t get old and the beat is made for the vocals. Another highlight is the features in this album. Lil Uzi Vert is on the album twice but “wokeuplikethis*” is the best display of their chemistry and best one with the guitar beat. A$AP Rocky stole the show on “New Choppa” and we have to thank him for mentoring Carti. Leven Kali is not as famous as the other two but we have got to thank him for making the best switch on “Flex” seamlessly. “Flex” is also good because Carti shows his more emotional side.

I can highly recommend it if you need to escape reality for 46 mins 56 sec or if you want to start listening to Playboi Carti.
