EUPHORIA

The american hit series Euphoria did it once again this year with a new season. The series premiered on June 16, 2019 on HBO and came back with two special episodes during 2021. The second season premiered on January 9 2022 and the last episode recently aired. The show is currently the second most watched show on HBO, right after Game of Thrones.

The series received nominations for the BAFTA and the TCA Award. Zendaya, who played our witty main protagonist 'Rue', won an Emmy Award and a Satellite Award for her outstanding performance. The singer and songwriter Labrinth composed the official soundtrack for the first season and won an Emmy Award for the single “All for Us”.

Euphoria has received positive reviews mainly regarding the cinematography, plot and performances of the cast. The show does approach mature subjects and could be considered controversial for its explicit content, some critics found the nudity excessive considering the ages of the characters. Although Zendaya has reiterated that the show is for a mature audience and deals with subjects that could be triggering or difficult to watch.

The show follows a group of high schoolers through their life experiences of family, friends, trauma, love and drugs. Starring Zendaya as the narrator, alongside with the main cast consisting of Maude Apatow, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeny, Angus Cloud, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Dominic Fike and Austin Abrams.

The series has undergone praiseworthy development from the first season. While the first season focused mainly on one character per episode, we got to see scenes from most of the characters point of view in different timelines for the second.

Fun fact about season two, the director Sam Levinson revealed that they reached out to Kodak to see if they would be able to shoot the entire series in 35mm format. According to Levinson, Kodak converted parts of its factory to make it possible.

The second season ended on a cliffhanger with several unanswered questions, but luckily HBO already announced a third season.
