Napoli’s Rise to Greatness

With every new season comes a fresh start, new opportunities and a boat load of excitement. At the moment Napoli seem to be the most exciting team in all of Europe.

The results speak for themselves, after a 4-1 victory over Liverpool and a 6-1 victory over Ajax in their recent Champions League fixtures, the Italian team is definitely well positioned to reach the latter stages of the prestigious tournament. The last time Napoli showed this much potential was during the days of Diego Maradona and his magical feet. In addition to their European success, Napoli currently sits at the top of the Serie A table with 6 wins and 2 draws in their first 8 games.

The summer transfer window saw them lose their biggest stars such as Kalidou Koulibaly to Chelsea, Fabian to Paris, and the iconic Lorenzo Insigne to Toronto FC. As a result the Azzurri's backroom staff were presented with one of the toughest challenges in modern football, buying good players for good prices. Napoli is a team known to be low spenders and usually look for bargain signings. With the Champions League on the horizon, new signings had to be made. Giacomo Raspadori, Giovanni Simeone, Tanguy Ndombele, Kim Min Jae and last but not least Khvicha Kvaratskhelia were all brought in to strengthen Spalletti’s squad.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia nicknamed Kvaradona by the Azzurri fans has been the highlight of this newly exciting squad. The Georgian international began his career at Napoli with a bang, scoring within the first 37 minutes of his debut. He has not only gained the respect of the fans but also their love, as he majestically paints his name across european football one dribble at a time. His ability to run past defenders and hold off the ball as a winger is not to be underestimated by any future opponent.
